I follow Old Jules because he is straight up, no bullshit, full of common sense and a tremendous sense of humor. He is usually apolitical. Today he has posted a piece that eloquently expresses the concern we should all share about the redistribution of wealth in this country. The elected elite will take, from those who cannot afford to give, and there will be a price to pay.

Dear elroy,
Bang on target — I just forwarded this one to my Republican, ultra-conservative, Ryan-loving Dad. This may finally get him to stop sending me emails.
Love,
Judith
Right back at ya, Sister!
Old Jules always calls it the way he sees it. I’ve missed having him around.
Jules is “good people”.
I fear that what he predicts will never come to be. It has been shown again and again and again that no matter what is thrown at us, we just take it. Look what Bush did to us and no one has ever called him out on it. If anyone, or any administration, deserved to be held accountable for crimes against humanityand for war crimes, it was Bush but did anyone do anything about it? Nope. There was plenty written about it but nothing ever happened. It all just died away. And, nothing will happen. This country has lost its teeth, I’m afraid.
Sometimes I think the country is busy watching reality TV and others I’m hopeful. There is strength in the boomer demographic, even the Tea Partiers are upset by Medicare/SS. W. should have been tried for war crimes but we put that all behind us. I don’t want to see civil unrest in this country for obvious reasons but I believe it could happen; martial law would be implemented post haste, just like Katrina where there was no difference between cops and criminals.
Watching too much TV is definitely part of the problem.
The boomer demographic is acquiescene & consumption.
I believe the main difficulty is: conditioning. We’ve been conditioned to obey, be soft, and retreat when confronted with authority. This has been a semi-conscious endeavor & has succeeded. Now the real question becomes (I think) just what is it going to take?
I don’t get it… if someone came to rob them, most people would not just roll over – but if it’s done long-distance than they act like it’s not even happening.
M
Conditioning is a good hypothesis. What happened with the 60s revolution then? What caused young people to decide fight back against authority then? We need some of that back.
The 60s revolution served it’s purpose and paved the way for yuppie excess, Rolex watches, and mountains of cocaine.
My take & honestly? I think the 60s were brought about the sudden infusion of massive amounts of drugs – mainly pot, LSD, & other ‘mind’ drugs. I agree with what Timothy Leary said at one time – we’re so messed up, insane, that we cannot possibly see our way out unless we are forcibly kicked out into the sane world. Drugs did that.
So what happened after that? Either we were overcome by the shear massiveness of the system or we sold out. And I’m afraid it was our (humanity’) last chance.
If someone robbed me I’d give them what I have to preserve myself. Theft from the masses is outrageous by virtue of its sheer magnitude.
Depending on the circumstances, I might do the same.
But I would damn well be working on preventing it from happening again.
That was deep. I liked the picture too.
I knew you’d like him. Hmmm…magic links?
I don’t know what magic links are. It sounds dirty.
How convenient for you to not know what they are; you weren’t able to access links, remember?
Magic links sounds psychedelic to me.
Or like really good sausages.
